The Tyradine Engineering Elite-class Medium Freighter was a cargo transport used by various interests during the waning years of the Republic through the first years of the New Republic.
The Elite-class possessed two decks: One for crew and operations, the other for cargo and ship systems. Although the standard vessel was very bare-bones when it came to any extras or frills, the vessel was surprisingly easy to modify and accept additional hardware or accessories.
Although slow, the vessel was known for it’s superb handling, even with new models. The heavy hull was also a strong selling point, not needing additional armor or hull plating incorporated later. Additional shields installed after purchase made this vessel a hearty freighter, making it a less-than appealing target for pirates and raiders.
Due to it’s size, ruggedness, and modification capabilities, the Elite-class could often find it’s way into the hands of rebel cells where it was modified into a military transport or escort.
Tyradine Engineering made the foray into the Cargo Hauler/Freighter market in 25 BBY, just prior to the outbreak of the Clone Wars, introducing the Elite-class medium freighter. While trying to maintain a strict policy of utility over possible abuse, the freighter was armored, but not heavily armed or shielded. The one selling point was the ability for the freighter to accept heavy modifications post-sale. Most owners, when able to, modified their freighters extensively. Many of these heavily modified vessels found their way into the Outer Rim territories, working as tramp freighters and smuggling vessels.
