The Sakari were the native sentient species to the terrestrial world of Masakari, located in the Manchi Sector of the Mid Rim territories. The Sakari had huge, leathery wings and a long tail with a flat, paddle-like end that gave them stability in flight. Their bodies were covered with a natural, hard, black armor. On their broad cheeks were twin breathing orifices lined with tiny white hairs, which could be seen to flutter as the being inhaled and exhaled. The Sakari could see in the infrared spectrum, and their eyes were sensitive to bright light. Their hands had five fingers and two opposable thumbs, one on either side. The Sakari did not require sleep, and were able to learn and understand an incredible amount of information in a short time.
Their planet was organized into about a thousand small cities, which were designed for beings that could fly; there were few if any walkways, and doors were placed at any convenient elevation. The Sakari had developed a highly technological and scientific culture, and each of their cities was devoted to the study of a single branch of knowledge.
