Dr. Beverly Crusher was born as Beverly Howard on the Core World of Rhinnal in the Darpa Sector. While Beverly was still a young child, both of her parents were killed. She was raised by her grandmother, Felisa Howard, whom Beverly referred to as "Nana", who was born into the noble Howard family. Beverly attended and graduated from the Rhinnal State Medical Academy. During that time, she became romantically involved with Jak Crusher. The two were married after Jak proposed to her through a gag gift, a book entitled How to Advance Your Career Through Marriage. Jak served aboard the VSD Stargazer. The Crushers welcomed a son, Wesley Crusher. Jak died on a mission while serving aboard the Stargazer. Beverly never fully recovered from his death. After witnessing too many atrocities at the hands of Imperial forces, Beverly defected to the Rebel Alliance. She joined the Rebel cell in the Manchi Sector, taking up residence on Phantom Station with Wesley. She felt she could treat Rebel agents without any worries of Imperial scrutiny aboard the well hidden shadowport.
